Parque Nacional de Samaria in Samariá

O Parque Nacional de Samaria atópase na Illa de Creta.

Datos de interese

Trátase dun parque nacional de alta montaña, xa que varios cumios coma o Volakas ou o Melintaou superan os dous mil metros de altitude. Nas zonas máis baixas predomina o bosque mediterráneo. O parque nacional foi declarado no 1.962. Posteriormente, no 1.981, foi declarado Reserva da Biosfera. A superficie protexida é de 4.850 hectáreas.

Flora e Fauna

As forestas de alcipreste son extensas e predominan na paisaxe. Existen formacións de piñeiro brutia' e de loendros. Tamén están presentes as figueiras, o lentisco e o carballo cabeludo (quercus coccifera). As especies animais máis salientables son o quebraosos e a cabra montesa. Pódense atopar voitres comúns, choias e a gralla cereixeira.

It took us 6 hours to go 13 km. Take tracking boots with ribbed sole, a swimsuit for beach in Agia Roumeli after the track and a muscle & joint rub. Don't take water, there are springs on the track.

One of the most difficult hikes of my life, but definitely worth it!! I totally recommend getting there as early as possible to have time to rest on the hike.

The “star” of the National Forest is the famous Cretan wild goat, best known as the “Kri-kri”. This is the gorge’s most famous resident and for its protection the gorge was declared a National Park.

Impressive but the nicer views of the gorge are after the half way down. Maybe better to start the trail from agia roumeli and just go for 3-4 km and then back. you will see the best part!

if you want to see the fantastic waterfall, you must start early. be well rquiped. the rosd from chania to the park in some places is under construction and you shall drive very slow.

Only if you know what you’re doing - we spent 9hs on a bus from near Heraklion for this. Views are fab but you’ll only be able to enjoy them from time to time as the route is tricky AF. Good shoes!
