Yad Vashem

Yad Vashem é un museo adicado a manter viva a memoria dos seis millóns de xudeus mortos no Holocausto durante a Shoah perpretada polos nazis durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial. Trátase do memorial oficial israelí, e foi establecido en 1953 pola Lei do Memorial. Foi diseñado polo arquitecto israelí Moshe Safdie, e está ubicado en Har Hazikarón, nunha loma ao oeste de Xerusalén.

O memorial consiste en diversos edificios: unha cámara da memoria, un museo histórico, unha galería de arte, os arquivos, o Val das Comunidades destruídas, a sala dos nomes, o memorial dos nenos e un centro educativo. Alberga obxetos auténticos, testemuñas do exterminio nazi e da vida xudía antes e despois do Holocausto. É considerado o centro de información máis importante do mundo sobre o Holocausto, cun arquivo que conta con documentais, películas, máis de 200.000 fotografías e 62 millóns de documentos, libros e artigos sobre o maior xenocidio da Historia.

Recoñecemento

O museo foi remadelado o 15 de marzo de 2005, coincidindo co 60 aniversario do fin da Segunda Guerra Mundial (1939-1945), e o 12 de setembro de 2007 recibiu o premio Príncipe de Asturias da Concordia 2007. O xurado gavou ao museo Yad Vashem de Xerusalén polo seu incansable traballo na loita contra o odio, o racismo e a intolerancia.
